The Alice Oswald collection Falling Awake published in the UK by Cape Poetry in July 2016 and by W. W. Norton in the US the same August, includes resettings of a number of pieces first published by The Letter Press. It has as its centre-piece, Tithonus, which was first performed in 2014 at the London Literature Festival.
The typesetting of the original edition of Tithonus was converted into Monotype Bembo for the Cape collection. We also developed the jacket motif, which uses the image of a diver from Aaron Siskind’s Pleasures and Terrors of Levitation series. At the outset, we hoped that Cape and Norton might use different images from the same Aaron Siskind series. Some preliminary designs are shown here.
